How to Create Blockouts in the Adit Scheduler

Blockouts are used to mark unavailable time on the calendar, such as holidays, office closures, or staff PTO. With Adit’s Scheduler on the Home page, you can easily add blockouts directly to your calendar.

When to Use Blockouts

Use blockouts for:

  • Practice-wide closures (e.g., holidays, emergencies)

  • Individual operatory blockouts (e.g., equipment maintenance)

  • Provider-specific blockouts 

  • Part-day or recurring closures

How to Create a Blockout

  1. Navigate to the Home Page

  2. Double-click any open slot on the scheduler where you want to add your blockout


  1. In the pop up window, select the Closure tab.

    1. Name for your closure - this will help staff quickly identify it on the scheduler.

      1. “Office Meeting – Staff Training”

      2. “Holiday – Labor Day”

      3. “Dr. Grant Vacation ”


  1. Choose the date and time range for the blockout..

    1. Use the “All Day” checkbox for full-day closures.


  1. Choose how often the closure should occur:

    1. Doesn’t Repeat

    2. Daily

    3. Every Weekday (Monday–Friday)

    4. Custom (e.g., alternate weeks, certain days)

  1. Pick one or more operatories where the blockout will apply








  1. Set a color for the blockout


  1. Select the Save button to create the blockout.

  1. The Blockout will now show on the Schedule.

    1. You can also:

      1. Move the blockout to another operatory by dragging it to another column

      2. Extend or shorten the blockout by dragging the edges of the blockout 

      3. Edit the Blockout details by clicking  


How to Edit an Existing Blockout

You can edit existing blockouts directly from the Adit Scheduler home page, including those originally created in your EHR.

You can edit a Blockout by doing any of the following actions:

  1. Move the blockout to another operatory by dragging it to another column

  2. Extend or shorten the blockout by dragging the edges of the blockout 

  3. Edit the Blockout details by clicking on the Blockout Itself
