To ensure compliance with Federal Communications Commission regulations and to avoid federal fines and charges for violating these regulations, we recommend that you register your business brand for 10-Digit Long Code (10DLC). This applies to all companies in North American who may send text messages to a US-based phone number.
Because a large volume of unsolicited text messages are often sent using messaging software (called "application-to-peer" or "A2P"), phone carriers in North American now partner with The Campaign Registry (TCR) to authenticate legitimate business phone numbers. By registering with TCR, businesses ensure the credibility of their messages, protecting consumers from unwanted texts, maintaining communication standards, and ensuring message delivery.
Failure to register your practice may incur additional fees and penalties from carriers and their partners. These fees will be added to your service charges. You may also encounter problems sending future text messages to patients if carriers mark your messages as spam due to a lack of 10DLC registration.
What is 10DLC?
10DLC (10-digit long code) is the newest service for business text messaging using SMS and MMS. 10DLC explicitly allows application-to-peer (A2P) SMS traffic over long code phone numbers for things like alerts, appointment reminders, notifications, and marketing messages. 10DLC is required by carriers to improve reliability and integrity of A2P communications.
